BlastWeb Features

The features of the BlastWeb Electronic initiation system include

  • Daisy Chaining. Daisy Chaining describes the process by which the digital signal received by one detonator is actioned and then communicated to the next detonator. There is no longer any need to program each detonator individually with the control equipment.
  • Network Connectivity. The BlastWeb initiation system connects via a Blastweb Terminator, where the shot can be initiated from a place of safety, by means of a Blast Control Unit (BCU). In addition, the QuickShot Plus initiation system can be connected to a blast network by means of cables and specialized underground hardware, which is, in turn, connected to a Surface Blast Controller. The network installation allows for centralised blasting to occur, which is where shots on multiple levels and in multiple underground areas are initiated simultaneously or selected areas at one time, from a central point.
  • Continuous testing of the QuickShot Plus installation. Once connected, the QuickShot Plus electronic detonators continuously “talk” to the upstream control equipment giving continuous real time feedback on the status of the complete blast installation.

  • Support for various detonator types. The BlastWeb System can be used to initiate QuickShot™ Plus, SmartShot and DigiShot™ Plus detonators, as well as the DriftShot Starter which is used to initiate detonating cord  and Shocktube systems via Netshock. The BlastWeb System can be used as a stand-alone system (fixed or portable) or as part of a centralised blasting network.

Blasting Equipment

  • The BlastWeb Surface Blast Controller

    The BlastWeb Surface Blast Controller allows centralised blasting to take place from above the ground and is password protected. The Surface Blast Controller collects, displays and stores all events on a real time bases and supplies warnings of all faults or errors on the system enabling users to do fault diagnostics and fix all problems before blasting time. The Surface Blast Controller sends the blast instruction to all selected BCU’s when prompted by the blaster. It  also compiles blast reports to supply blast information.

  • The BlastWeb Blast Control Unit (BCU)

    The Blast Control Unit (BCU) provides the required blast voltage and encoded signal necessary to initiate the blast. The BCU can be used in a standalone or remote blasting mode, blasting a maximum of six blasting points from a point of safety using a Red Smart Key. The BCU can be powered from 110, 220, or 525Vac and incorporates a battery back-up system in case of power failures to ensure blasting. The BCU can link via a Copper or Ethernet backbone to other BCU’s and a BlastWeb Surface BlastWeb Controller to form an integrated communication system which enables users to have access to real time information on all events occurring  and to blast the entire installation from a central point.

  • BlastWeb Dual Channel Repeater

    The Dual Channel Repeater is a device connected in line on a Copper back bone and powered by 110, 220 or 525Vac. It collects, refreshes and passes all data communication signals to the Surface Blast Controller on surface and all BCU’s underground to ensure good communication. The unit incorporates a battery back-up system in case of power failures to ensure blasting.


  • BlastWeb USB Leased Line Modem

    The USB Leased Line Modem is a device converting Ethernet from the Surface Blast Controller to FSK so that it can be transmitted on a Copper backbone. The USB modem is powered from a USB port on the Surface Blast Controller.

  • The BlastWeb 4-wire Terminator

    The BlastWeb 4-wire Terminator is as an interface between the  4-wire QuickShot Plus detonators and 2-wire blast cable from the BCU. It is a diagnostic device indicating the integrity of the QuickShot Plus detonator installation and blast cable between the Blast Control Unit and 4-wire Terminator.

  • The BlastWeb 2wire Terminator

    The 2-Wire Terminator acts as an indicator on the quality of the initiator installation and blast cable from the BCU enabling users to ensure that the installation is fully functional before leaving the blast point to arm the system from the BCU which is placed at a point of safety.

  • The BlastWeb High Voltage Terminator

    The High Voltage Terminator is a 2-wire device acting as an intermediate device enabling the initiation of electric detonators from the BCU system.

  • The Smart Keys

    The Smartkeys must be docked into the BCU for the blast to be armed and fired. The Smartkey houses the physical link to connect the blast voltage and also passes the encoded signal to the initiators. The Red Smart Key is used for local blasting and the Yellow Smart Key for centralised blasting applications.

    QuickShot Plus

    • The QuickShot Plus Electronic Detonator

      The QuickShot Plus is a pre-programmed electronic detonator for underground mines, which demonstrates the benefits of accurate timing in tunnelling applications. The inter-hole timing can be changed by adding Pause- or Delay markers to accommodate more complex blasting requirements,such as required for civil or shaft sinking operations.

      The QuickShot Plus detonator is a plug-and-play system where user interaction can be kept to a minimum. It offers simplified daisy-chain linking which enables easy visualisation of the blast. In its simplest form customers simply connect QuickShot Plus detonators in the firing order preferred for the specific round design. This makes the system easy to use and understand.

    • The QuickShot Plus Pause Marker

      The QuickShot Plus Pause Marker is a hardware unit, which, when placed in series with the QuickShot Plus electronic detonators, pauses the signal from the previous detonator to the next in line. These delays are available in: 100ms, 200ms, 400ms, 500ms, 600ms, 800ms, 5000ms and 10000ms, but can be changed to the required value in 1ms increments using the QuickShot Plus Tagger.

    • The QuickShot Plus Delay Marker

      The QuickShot Plus Delay marker is a hardware device, which, when placed in series with QuickShot Plus detonators, will change the factory default timing of 125ms to the required timingdelay on the Delay Marker. These delays are available in: 0ms, 50ms, 150ms, 200ms, 300ms, 400ms, 500ms, 600ms, 700ms and 800ms but can be changed to the required value using the QuickShot Plus Tagger in 1ms increments.

    • The QuickShot Plus Splitter

      The QuickShot Plus Splitter is a hardware device featuring state-of-the-art silicon chip timing technology, which, when placed in series with QuickShot Plus detonators, allows the signal to be split from one into two paths..

    • The QuickShot Plus Tagger

      The QuickShot Plus Tagger is an inherently safe, hand held device that is used to test and do fault finding on the QuickShot Plus detonator panels. It is also used to program QuickShot Plus pause and delay markers.




    • The NetShock

      The NetShock is an electronically initiated, low strength detonator, intended for remote firing of shocktube. The device is encapsulated in an aluminium tube with an integrally moulded clip allowing easy and reliable connection to shocktube.


    DriftShot Starter

      DriftShot Starter is an electronically initiated detonator, intended for the remote firing of detonator cord. The device is encapsulated in a copper tube with an integrally moulded clip allowing easy and reliable connection to detonator cord.




    • The SmartShot Electronic Detonator

      The SmartShot electronic detonator is an 8D strength detonator, with green 4-wire cable and a rugged water-resistant surface connector that’s easily handled while wearing gloves. Connections are simple; the male connector of one unit simply snaps into the female of the next, and so on, along a row. Since SmartShot has the capability to program any time delay to any detonator from a single point in the string, the user can employ a variety of connection patterns to achieve the desired delay sequence.

    • The DigiShot Electronic Detonator

      The DigiShot Electronic Detonator is a 2-wire programmable precision initiation device. The detonator shell is copper and fits in a standard booster. The timing accuracy is +/- 1 millisecond for blast durations of less than 5 seconds.

      The DigiShot connector is a small, transparent, rugged and water resistant connector with finger-friendly grippers for ease of use. A specially developed gel ensures leakage-free connections without messy greasy leaks.
